Pleiku Airport temporarily closed for 7 months

According to Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, Pleiku Airport will be closed temporarily within about 7 months. During this time, Pleiku Airport will be repaired and upgraded with the project for extending runways, taxiways, and aircraft apron.

Therefore, Vietnam Airlines flights to/from Pleiku will be suspended during this period. Specific period of temporary closure of Pleiku Airport made by Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam is from 00h01(local time) on March 15, 2015 to 23h59' (local time) on October 25, 2015. Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam requires Central Airports Authority to take responsibility to notify authorities, organizations and individuals involving in Pleiku Airport in management and exploitation; at the same time, strengthen supervision to ensure security and safety during construction, renovation and upgrade runways of Pleiku Airport. Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation shall have responsibility to implement notifications appropriate to aeronautical information in accordance with current regulations. Airports Corporation of Vietnam organizes the construction of project for extending runways, taxiways, apron aircraft quality assurance, security, safety and schedule. Vietnam Airlines plans to base on closure to arrange appropriate schedules and ensure conveniently serve passengers.

Pleiku Airport is one of airports in Vietnam having an important role in economy, politics, and geography. This is the gateway for Pleiku City connecting localities and other provinces. This is also an ideal destination in domestic routes of airlines in Vietnam. Besides, with ideal climatic condition in Central Highlands and many untouched landscapes, which attracts both international and domestic tourists. It is the city's potential, which needs investment. It is also an advantage in competing with other airport in the region to gradually become a commercial port, an aviation hub of Central Highlands, neighboring provinces, and neighboring countries such as Laos and Cambodia. Currently, there are 02 domestic airlines operating the airport with regular flights to 03 cities in Vietnam.

According to Vietnam Airlines, passengers having seat confirmed (either ticketed nor not) in Vietnam Airlines flights to/from Pleiku in the interim closure period will be completely refunded tickets, or change new ticket to Buon Ma Thuot Airport / Quy Nhon Airport (expenses may be arised due to differences in fares and taxes) at the venue to purchase tickets.

During the period of temporary closure of the Pleiku Airport, Vietnam Airlines plans to add 10 flights / week to / from Quy Nhon by A32. Passengers can continue to travel by road to Pleiku. Specifically, from the beginning of April 2015, VNA will increase flights' frequency Ho Chi Minh City - Quy Nhon to 7 flights / week, and increase the frequency of flights between Hanoi and Quy Nhon 3 flights / week in addition to the regular schedule. Earlier, flights from Hanoi / Ho Chi Minh City to Pleiku and vice versa have been adjusted from December 1, 2014 - March 28, 2015 to ensure compliance with the provisions for the suspension of exploitation of runway's signal system at Pleiku Airport.
