Vietnam with kids - 6 fun activities

If you are planning to spend your vacation with family in Vietnam, you should research some fun activities for kids in advance.

You won’t find this information in the highly trumpeted travel guides, thus we found for you some activities that children will love, as endless temples and historical sites will likely bore them to death.

- Take a cyclo-rickshaw ride through the backstreets of Hanoi

It’s worth taking a cyclo for an hour to explore the ancient capital Hanoi. People say that walking is much better, fair enough, however, that might be quite a challenge with toddlers, as the absence of any pavements together with an enormous amount of scooters definitely say that kids need to be kept close. But taking a cyclo-rickshaw will allow you to enjoy the city in a more relaxed way without constantly looking after your children.

- Take a boat ride through a cave system in Ninh Binh

Ninh Binh is called “Halong Bay” on the land. Beautiful stony outcrops not unlike those at Ha Long Bay, though a bit smaller in size. The best way to enjoy the scenery is to ride a bicycle or take a boat. Either way, kids will enjoy the activity. If you decide to take a boat you won’t row by yourself, it will be piloted by one of the locals, whose skills are so impressive. You will follow the river as it curls around the mountains and then go straight at the narrow opening at the base of a cliff. A dark cave, through which a local rower will navigate a boat. What can be more exciting than that?

- Visit the Dam Sen Waterpark in Saigon

Of course, a waterpark is not really Vietnamese experience, but it will be such a treat for children. While younger children will love a big toddler pool with animal slides, the older kids will try themselves in taking a turn on the giant rope swings or terrifying steep slides. The waterpark is busy on weekends and during Vietnamese holiday, so try to avoid such time if possible.

- Basket boat ride and crabbing in Hoi An

For many travelers Hoi An is all connected to the ancient houses, faded walls, old streets, antique beauty peaceful atmosphere here. Coming to Hoi An you should try a new type of eco-tourism: Riding a basket boat. It is not only an interesting experience for you, but your kids will be thrilled trying to ride such boat.  Learn how to control a basket boat might be quite challenging at first, almost invariably you will just send yourself in circles, but that is a fun part of it.  The proper technique is to gently wave the paddle back and forth through the water in an arcing motion. This trip can show off the charming lands around the city.

- Vinpearl Safari in Phu Quoc

Phu Quoc is an ideal resort with sandy beaches, crystal clear water and beautiful sunsets. Perhaps many parents would be worried that such vacation would be boring for their kids, but there are many activities to entertain your precious ones. One of them is Vinpearl Safari and conservation park. It is the first and only open zoo in Vietnam that was built according to international Safari model. Open Zoo nurtures and conserves rare native species and many species of wild animals.

 Crawl through the Cu Chi Tunnels

The tunnel network of Cu Chi became famous during the 1960s for taking control of a big rural area about 40km from HCMC. The tunnel system stretched from the South Vietnamese capital to the Cambodian border. It is one of the most fun activities while in Ho Chi Minh City. Kids will especially enjoy searching the forest floor to find the entrance to the tunnels (almost impossible) and going down into the tunnels as further as you can manage. Adults have to give up quite quickly as hot weather and crawling take its toll, but almost all children will happily continue through the entire length of the tunnel.  The visitors being able to closely observe lions playing in the hay, giraffes cruising across the road, rhinos roaming around and drowning themselves in wet mud or waterbucks suddenly pricking their ears up to the roar from “the Lord of the forest”
