According to the regulation of Vietnam Airlines, Each passenger is only allowed one piece of carry-on (hand) baggage enough to be placed in the overhead bin or under the passenger seat of the plane cabin with a maximum dimension (length + width +height) of 45 in. (115 cm) and maximum allowance weight of 7 kgs. (15 lbs).

A carry-on (hand) bag that exceeds the free allowance weight or maximum dimension shall be arrested and charged an Excess Baggage Charge if it is applicable. In addition to the free carry-on (hand) baggage allowance, a passenger is only allowed to carry on-board a maximum two of any item as follows: a small handbag, pocket book or purse, an overcoat, wrap or blanket, a small camera or binoculars, laptop with case, a reasonable amount of reading material.

For passengers with disabilities, carry-on baggage shall be added to the assistive devices allowed to carry for free.

For infant's carry-on baggage, the airline allows to carry one infant's carrying basket or infant's car seat, or fully collapsible stroller subject to available space.

For routes between Japan and Area 1*, Area 2*, and Area 3*: Carry-on baggage and checked baggage are 1 piece of baggage with maximum dimensions 62in. (158cm) and the weight is less than 50lbs (23kgs).

According to the regulation of the airline, the following restricted articles are not allowed to be carried in the aircraft cabin. These items must be put in the checked-in baggage:

- Nail cutters, swiss knives, scissors, any bladed items or sharp objects/goods
- Any types of Umbrellas
- Bicycle chains and jacks or other similar items
- Lighters, which contain “butane” as well as matches, are banned in both carry-on and checked baggage
- Zippo lighters can be checked in or carry-on as long as it is completely drained of its fluid
- Aerosols, liquids, and gels (LAGs) in 100ml or less are allowed to transport as carry-on baggage. LAGs have to be put in safe containers less 100ml and must be secured in closed tight plastic bags as changes in pressure of cabin could cause the leak of sealed items.
- All kinds of adhesive tape (rubber/packing/masking duct/scotch/electrical)

For safe reasons of the flight, dangerous items (articles or substances which are capable of causing a risk to health, safety, property or the environment) are prohibited to be carried in passengers’ carry-on or checked baggage.
