Yes, Sporting Equipment is considered as Special Baggage. When you are travelling with Garuda Indonesia, you can bring most sports equipment with you on your trip, though additional baggage fares may be applicable to oversized or overweight items/goods. Always make a booking for special baggage at least 48 hours prior to departure time, and make sure that the reservation confirmed.

Sporting equipment will be counted towards your baggage allowance. Some examples of sporting equipment are:

Surfboards: 1 pc/ pax surfboards with a length and a weight < 300 cm or < 23 kg will be counted to your free baggage allowance. Passengers note that there are exceptions for CRJ 1000 & ATR72-600 aircrafts. Surfboards considered as normal baggage allowance for those aircrafts are < 230 cm < 23 kg for CRJ 1000 and <160 cm <23 kg for ATR72-600.

Wind, Wave/Kite & Body Board: Body boards < 200 cm in length and in weight or < 23 kg and total dimension of 158 cm (62 inch) (length+width+height) will be counted to your free baggage allowance. Passengers note that ATR72-600 aircrafts are an exception for. Body boards counted as normal baggage allowance for those aircrafts is those with a length and a weight <160 cm <23 kg.

Bicycles: a bicycle should pack in a suitable carton bicycle box with the dimensions of 158cm/62 inch (l+w+h). A box will defend both the bicycle and the baggage of other passengers.

Golfing equipment: A golf bag including golf clubs and one pair of golf shoes is calculated as one piece of baggage with the whole dimensions of 62 inch (158 cm), irrespective of actual dimensions.

Skis equipment: Snow skiing equipment normally contains one pair of ski, one pair of ski poles and / or one pair of boots. It is calculated as one piece of baggage with all dimensions of 62 inch (158 cm), irrespective of actual dimensions.

Sporting equipment Musical instrument with a weight more than 23 kg will be surely charged as excess baggage. And they may even be transported as cargo if they has a weight more than 32 kg.

Passenger may transport special baggage as carry-on baggage into the passenger’s cabin, which may be transported in addition to the free baggage allowance or baggage in the Passenger cabin due to value, nature, dimension, weight, and form of the articles that passengers wish to keep them a safe way on hand by themselves with a comfortable location near with the respective passenger’s seat.

Under the following conjunctures, due to nature of their belongings as well strictly in accordance to flight safety standard, a passenger must book and pay for one or more additional seats to bring their goods/items in the Passenger Cabin.

The goods included in the category of baggage permitted in the passenger cabin but not a carry-on baggage is as follows: Violoncellos, Antique Pot, Diplomatic Bag, Movie camera, etc.

Carriage of Security Removed Items should be handled properly so as to exalt security & safety aspect on any flight of Garuda Indonesia. SECIT should include (but are not limited to):

Firearms (pen shape pistol, pistol, hand gun) of any kind containing toy firearms or toy weapons that have shapes like replica pistol, whether made of plastic or metal, and its ammunitions.

All knives (including household cutlery, flick knives) and Knife like-objects, sharp objects or cutting implements of any kind and any length (whether of metal or other material).

Daggers, box cutters, corkscrews, straight razors, metal nail files, scissors or any kind of any length.

Hypodermic needles (unless required for medical reason) other sharp pointed/penetrating object, knitting needles.

Sporting goods such as bats, bows and arrows, cues, darts, golf clubs, sling shots (catapults), martial arts devices, devices which emit gas or noxious substance.

Offensive articles not normally carried by the ordinary citizen, such as bicycle chains, coshes (blunt weapon) or blackjacks, etc.

All SECIT removed from the passenger will be kept in Security Item Box dedicated to the aircraft or flight on which the passenger flies and will be given back at destination airport. Passenger requiring the use of medical syringes in flight such as diabetics and other passengers with documented proof of medical need must make sure that it is carefully packed and professionally labeled. The information of such passenger should be forward to the operating crew. An authorized person performing duty on board an aircraft such as a law enforcement officer or diplomatic courier may not be allowed to retain custody of his/her firearm(s) and ammunition, or other related SECIT in the passenger cabin of any Garuda Indonesia aircraft.

You are free 20 kg of check-in baggage for Plus-Plus Economy Class service on a Garuda Indonesia flight, at no extra charge.

According to the regulation, only 1 piece of hand (carry-on) baggage per passenger with Economy Class is permitted. The maximum baggage for total dimensions does not exceed 56 cm x 36 cm x 23 cm (22 in x 14 in x 9 in). One other small item (e.g. laptop, handbag, etc) is also permitted, and the whole weight of hand baggage shall not exceed 7 kg.

Any sharp object including Nail clippers, scissors, razors or any object that may be considered as causing dangerously are not allowed to bring onto the aircraft.

You should be sure that you receive a receipt of PIR report from officer of the airline at the Lost & Found Office. In some cases, if your baggage is missing, the airline will compensate with cash for you.

You are possible to only carry one hand baggage in maximum size of 56 cm x 36 cm x 23 cm and no more than 7 kg in weight. In addition, you are possible to carry cosmetic box or laptop.

Before you leave the arrival baggage hall, please be sure that your baggage is still in good condition. If your baggage is broken, you should go to the Lost & Found Office at once to report damage and get the PIR for either domestic or international routes prior to you leave the arrival hall. The Lost & Found Officer will check to fix the damage if it is still repairable. If it is not, your baggage will be replaced with a new one. If your report is filed after you leave the arrival hall, the officer of the airline will make another report to replace the one from PIR. However, this document is not possible to serve as proof.
