You have to:
- Get a security pass at the ticket counter to meet the child at the gate (for flights within US)
- Show a government-issued photo ID when picking up children

In this case, the airline will call the contacts on the unaccompanied minor form and arrange an alternate flight if necessary.

Curbside check-in of American Airlines is a service that is supplied at the curb of participating airports. The service helps passengers check in their baggage. Passengers may associated baggage fee on a credit card and get a boarding pass right at the curb. The service is available for for an itinerary within the U.S.

At the following airports, passengers can use curbside check in service:

Atlanta, Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Cincinnati, Dallas Fort Worth, Denver, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, Newark, New Orleans, New York – Kennedy, New York – LaGuardia, Northwest Arkansas Regional, Orange County, Orlando, Palm Springs, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Francisco, San Juan, Steamboat Springs, Tampa, Vali, Washington, West Palm Beach.

For flights within/between US, Puerto Rico, and US Virgin Islands, passengers have to check-in bagage at least 30 minutes before departure time.

For flights from airports outside the US, or flights from US to international destinations, passengers have to check in baggage at least 60 minutes before the departure time.

There are some airports requiring more time to check baggage such as 45 minutes at ATL, AUS, CLT, ORD, CVG, DFW, DEN, HNL, JAX, LAS, LAX, MIA, EWR, JKF, MCO, PHL, PHX, PIT, SFO, SJU, SEA, STX, TPA, and IAD; 75 minutes at EZE and DUB, and 90 minutes at CCS and MAR.

Passengers can pay for any related baggage charges by their credit card.

AA check-in online is a service that helps passengers can check in for their flights from anywhere with an Internet connected device. In addition, if passengers’ itinerary has a connecting flight with other airline with which Air France has an e-ticketing and online check-in agreement, passengers may check-in for their flights with the carrier as well.

Passengers can check in online for their flights if:
- They can log in to the official website of American Airlines with AAdvantage number and password, or six-character record locator of passenger. They can log in with email adress which is suitable to their AAdvantage account.
- Passengers is traveling on flights of American Airlines or American Eagle with e-ticket, even ones issued by travel agencies or other online sources. Passengers can check in online when their first flight is operated by British Airways, Iberia or Japan Airlines.
- Passenger is booked on a flight that is no more than 24 hours but over 45 minutes before departure for flights from U.S., Puerto Rico or US Virgin Islands airports; less than 24 hours but more than 90 minutes before departure for flights from all other airports; less than 24 hours for flights of British Airways out of the U.S., Puerto Rico or US Virgin Islands; less than 36 hours for flights operated by Iberia out of the U.S., Puerto Rico or US Virgin Islands, less than 72 hours for flights of Japan Airlines out of the U.S., Puerto Rico or US Virgin Islands
- Passengers must have seat assignments

A passenger cannot check in online for his flight with American if:
- His first flight for check-in is not operated by AA or American Eagle. Yet, if the filght is exploited by British Airways, Iberia, or Japan Airlines, the check-in request will be transferred to the operating airline’s website.
- He is traveling on a military fare
- He is traveling with a pet
- He is traveling with an oxygen container
In case, a passenger checks in for a flight operated by British Airways, Iberia, or Japan Airlines, his check-in rules will apply. He can check with the operating carrier for more information.

In flights within/between the U.S., Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands, passenger cannot check in online if he is an unaccompanied minor; or, passengers cannot check in between one and 24 hours before flight.

In flights not within or between the U.S., Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands, passenger cannot check in online if traveling with an infant under 2 years old; he cannot check in between 02 and 24 hours before flight; he cannot check in over 24 hours before flights of British Airways, over 36 hours before flights of Iberia, and over 72 hours before flights of Japan Airlines.

Passengers can useAAdvantage membership. They need to log in their account and add the following information:
- Emergency Contact
- Country of Residence
- Passport Information
- U.S. Resident Card information

Passengers add travel documentation to their AAdvantage account profile, and the airline will add the information automatically when passengers use online check-in.
