+ What items requiring special care in domestic flight of Japan Airline?

Special baggage

Passengers have to pay special attention if carrying a knife or similar articles. If a knife or other articles that may be used as a weapon is found at the security point, you will have to return to the baggage counter and check it in or dispose of it at the security point.

- Lighters: Each passenger can bring one cigarette lighter. (Lighters with a tank are not permitted on-board or to be checked in.)
- Beverages and alcohol: These goods are subject to inspection and not permitted to put in your carry-on items.
- Spray cans: Depending on the use, the contents and the capacity, spray cans may not be allowed on-board.
- Rechargeable curling irons: Rechargeable curling irons whose rechargeable battery can be removed from the unit may be carried aboard. (Those whose batteries cannot may not be carried aboard or checked in.)
- Large tripods: Tripods exceeding a length of 60 centimeters when folded are not permitted on-board.
- Personal computers, Tablets: Please place them in the tray at the security point for inspection.
- Scissors, golf clubs and other items that may be used as a weapon may not be taken aboard
+ Where should I put my hand baggage in JAL Airlines domestic flights?

Hand baggage

For your own safety and comfort, please place your hand baggage under the seat or in the overhead compartments properly.

- Baggage that has not been securely stowed may cause the injury to you, other passengers or cabin attendants in the event of sudden movement.
- Baggage scattered in the aisle or emergency exit area may hinder an emergency evacuation.

*If you are seated directry behind screen, emergency exit or cabin separating wall and do not have a seat in front of you, your carry-on baggage may not be placed at your feet.
- Baggage kept on hand may hinder a passenger from enjoying the relaxing moments or taking a bracing position against impact properly.
+ Size and weight restrictions on Japan Airlines checked baggage in domestic routes?

Checked baggage

- Each passenger can bring up to 20 kilograms checked baggage. (There is no limit to the number of bags that may be checked in.)

- An excess baggage fee will be applied for items exceeding the permitted volume for carry-on items.

Baggage exceeding 100 kg per passenger may not be checked in.

Size of the baggage piece does not exceed 50 cm x 60 cm x 120 cm (We do check in skis and surfboards). If carry-on items up to a total of 20 kgs (There is no limit to the number of bags that may be checked in.), there is no charge for checking such items. First Class passengers may carry on items up to a total of 45 kgs, with a limit of 32 kgs for any one item.

If the total of cabin items is more than 20 kgs, baggage up to 100 kgs per passenger may be checked in for an excess baggage fee. (No one item may exceed 32 kilograms.)The charge per kilogram is 400 yen (excluding certain short-distance portions). For First Class, if the total of cabin items exceeds 45 kilograms. For RAC and JAC flights, up to a total of 45 kilograms with a limit of 32 kilograms for any one item.

Checked baggage

The items listed below should be carried with you and not included in your checked baggage.

- Expensive items: Cash, jewelry, precious metals, securities, bills of exchange, works of art and antiques.
- Valuables: Documents, electronic data, passports and other personal identification required for travel, samples, credit/bank cards, cash vouchers, bankbooks, checks, commuter passes, keys, computers and computer accessories, mobile phones, film cameras, digital cameras, video cameras, medication, paintings, watches, mementos, etc.

Please switch off electronic devices (excluding valuables) in your checked baggage.

JAL will not be responsible for any damage to fragile articles such as musical instruments, sports equipment (including golf club, surfboard, windsurfing equipment, diving equipment, bicycle, etc.), ceramics, glass articles and liquors, if the damage result from the inherent defect, quality or vice of the item, although adequate precautions will be taken in their handling. JAL also does not assume liability for the following damage to baggage, although adequate precautions will be taken in their handling.

- Damage to baggage resulting from over weight or over packing, or owing to defects of the baggage such as from normal wear and tear.
- Loss of protruding parts such as detachable wheels, straps, hooks and name tags.
- Minor damage such as scuffs, cuts, dents and dirt.

The limit of responsible of us for cabin baggage/cargo hold baggage whose value has NOT been declared in advance shall be limited to a maximum of ¥150,000 per person.If the actual value of the articles lost or damaged is more than ¥150,000, and if you have paid an Excess value charge of ¥10 per each ¥10,000 over the ¥150,000 threshold, our liability shall be limited to the higher declared value. Please note that these rules apply only in cases where JAL is liable, and that the stated rules are different to those governing the insurance system.

In the event that your checked baggage is damaged, please notify local airport staff when you claim your baggage. JAL is not responsible for damage to checked baggage, unless the carrier is clearly at fault for the damage.

JAL will try to cary Checked Baggage of a Passenger coincidently with the Passenger on the same aircraft; provided that, if JAL deems it difficult or impracticable, JAL may carry the Checked Baggage on any other flight in which such Baggage can be loaded within the maximum weight allowance or by any other transportation service.
+ Regulations on checked baggage in JAL Airlines international flight?

Checked baggage

- In First and Business Class, passengers can bring up to three pieces of free baggage. The weight of each baggage piece shall not exceed 32 kilograms (70 lbs) and the sum of three dimensions is less than 115cm (including any wheels and handles).

- In Economy Class, passengers can bring up to 2 pieces of free baggage: The weight of each baggage piece shall not exceed 23 kg (50 lbs) and the sum of three dimensions shall not exceed 115cm (including any wheels and handles).

- Infants entitled to a seat: follow the boarding class. A fully collapsible stroller, carrying basket and car seat for infant or child may be accepted with free of charge.

- Infants not occupying to a seat: can bring 1 piece with same total linear dimensions (length+height+width) and weight as accompanying adult. A fully collapsible stroller, carrying basket and car seat for infant or child may be accepted without charge.

- As cargo space is limited on each type of aircraft, please understand that we may be unable to load all checked baggage on the flight.
- Checked Baggage will be refused to carry in case it is not properly packed in a suitcase or other suitable container to ensure safe carriage and conveyance by the baggage belt. If the baggage includes two or more parts, it should be packed or wrapped wholly and securely to avoid the separation. Otherwise, it cannot be checked-in as 1 piece as that may damage other baggage or the airport facility.

Below are items considered restrictions on carry-on items and checked baggage in Japan Airlines domestic flights:
- Cosmetics, medicines (including disinfectant liquids and sprays)
- Daily necessities in spray cans or sport sprays (containing flammable gas)
- Cigarette lighters and safety matches
- Gas hair curlers
- Underwater flashlights/ torches (Because they belong to the classification of heat-producing items, they can be carried on board and checked in provided that their battery removed.), photography lights, curling irons and other implements that produce heat
- Dry ice
- Sports goods, and oxygen and air gas cylinders/bottles
- Non-vapor-heat-treated sweet potatoes, morning glories and the like from Okinawa Prefecture and the Amami Islands, as well as uninspected citruses, orange jasmine and other seedlings, budwood, stems or leaves from Okinawa Prefecture, Tokunoshima, Okinoerabujima and Yoronjima should not be carried onboard or checked in.

Hand baggage

Each passenger can bring one piece of hand baggage.

A passenger is permitted on board one personal belonging, such as a shopping bag or handbag, and one baggage meeting the following conditions.

The weight of both hand baggage pieces doesn’t exceed 10 kilograms (22lbs) and the sum of three dimensions shall not exceed 115cm (55cm x 40cm x 25cm or 22in x 16in x 10in).

If your baggage exceeds the weight and size limitations, or is unable to be appropriately placed in the cabin due to the stowage limitations, it may need to be checked in cargo compartment at the gate. Please turn off electronic devices in your checked baggage. Valuables should not be included in your checked baggage.

For your own safety and comfort, please place your hand baggage under the seat or in the overhead compartments properly.

Special baggage

- Traveling with Pets: Pets, consisting of cats, dogs and small birds may be checked in for a separate pet fee. Please arrive at our Pet Check-in Counter (baggage check-in counter) by 30 minutes priority to scheduled departure time.
- Traveling with Musical Instruments: Musical instruments larger than the carry-on size limit must be checked in at the check-in counter.
- Sports gear: golf bags, skis, surfboards, diving equipment and other such sports gear are carried like normal cabin baggage. (Baggage from 20 to 32 kilograms may be appliable to an excess fee, and up to 100 kilograms may be checked in.)
- Baby carriages: Baby carriages are carried like normal cabin baggage.
+ How about bulky baggage in domestic Japan Airlines flights?

Special baggage

Sports equipment with three dimensions larger than 50cm x 60cm x 120cm may not be allowed to carry if the cargo space of the aircraft is limited.

JAL flights operating CRJ200 aircraft and all JAC and RAC flights have limited cabin and cargo area space due to the aircraft size. JAL has the right to refuse skis, surfboards, golf bags, diving gear, and other bulky items as checked baggage on these flights.

When you bulky baggage is not accepted, you have to arrange delivery service by yourself.

Excess baggage

- In flights between Japan, Asia, India, Oceania and Hawaii, North/Central/South America, Europe, Middle East, Africa: Charge for Extra piece (per piece) 20,000yen (200USD/200CAD). Charge for Overweight (per piece) if more than 23 kg ~ 32 kg or under: 10,000yen (100USD/100CAD), if more than 32 kg ~ 45 kg or under: 60,000yen (600USD/600CAD). Charge for Oversize (per piece, total linear dimensions), exceed 203cm: 20,000yen (200USD/200CAD).

- In flights between Japan and Asia, Guam, Oceania: Charge for Extra piece (per piece): 10,000yen (100USD/100CAD). Charge for Overweight (per piece) if it exceeds 23 kg ~ 32 kg or under: 6,000yen (60USD/60CAD), if it exceeds 32 kg ~ 45 kg or under: 30,000yen (300USD/300CAD). Charge for Oversize (per piece, total linear dimensions), exceed 203cm: 10,000yen (100USD/100CAD)

- Japan Domestic flights (in case CONDITIONS OF CARRIAGE (INTERNATIONAL PASSENGERS BAGGAGE) applied): Charge for Extra piece (per piece) 5,000yen (50USD/50CAD). Charge for Overweight (per piece) if more than 23 kg ~ 32 kg or under: 1,000 yen (10USD/10CAD), if more than 32 kg ~ 45 kg or under: 15,000 yen (150USD/150CAD)

Note: In addition to free baggage allowance of each boarding class, each passenger can bring maximum of +7 pieces checked baggage. For Manila route, each passenger is allowed to carry maximum of 5 pieces including free baggage allowance regardless of boarding class.

When we do not have enough space for cargo storage room, extra pieces of baggages exceeding free baggage allowance will be offloaded. In such cases, those baggages will be delivered to the destination on next available flight.

Note: Baggage weighing more than 45 kg (100 lbs.) will not be accepted as checked baggage. Excess charge will be summed up if the baggage is applicable for different types of charges.
