How many steps to buy Pre-Purchased QAN Airlines Additional Baggage Allowance?
Excess baggage
To pre-purchase Additional Baggage Allowance, follow some simple steps as follows:
1. Login to Manage Your Booking from directly after reserving up to 3 hours prior to the scheduled departure of the next Qantas operated flight on your itinerary and before check-in.
2. Select the Additional Baggage icon.
3. Process to pay for Additional Baggage Allowance by using credit card or debit card or redeeming Qantas Points. You need to be logged in to your Frequent Flyer account to buy with your points.
4. Take a copy of your e-mail receipt to show at the airport as proof of purchase. A print out of your Manage Your Booking page will not be accepted.
Note that Qantas flights with a "QF" flight number. Additional Baggage Allowance is unavailable for flights operated by another airline (such as codeshare or interline flights) or if you are making a connection to/from a flight operated by another carrier within 24 hours of your Qantas operated flight. The additional baggage fares of the operating airline are applicable in these instances.

A maximum of five additional baggage pieces may be bought in advance per flight. A maximum weight is also applicable for each additional piece, which is determined by your following membership status:
- Non-Frequent Flyers and Bronze flying in Economy Class - 23kg per piece.
- If your bag is over this weight (up to 32kg) a Heavy Charge will be applicable at the airport.
- Platinum, Gold, Silver Frequent Flyers and Qantas Club members flying in Economy Class - 32kg per piece.
- All passengers travelling in Business Class - 32kg per piece.
- Additional baggage brought over the pre-purchased allowance will be applicable to Airport Excess Baggage Charges at the airport, regardless of Frequent Flyer status.

What can Qantas additional baggage be purchased on International - other than The Americas?

Additional Baggage Allowance can be bought for additional allowances of 5kg, 10kg, 15kg, 25kg or 35kg per flight.
Airport Excess Baggage Charges will be applicable at the airport if the whole checked bag weight is over your checked baggage allowance and pre-purchased additional allowance, regardless of Frequent Flyer status.
Exception: For some Travel Agent Bookings where we cannot know if your ticket has been issued in weight or piece, Additional Baggage will be available by weight.

Non-Frequent Flyers, Bronze, Qantas Club, Silver and Gold Frequent Flyer members flying in Economy and Premium Economy class can bring 23kg per piece. If your bag exceeds this weight (up to 32kg), a Heavy Charge will be applicable at the airport.
Platinum Frequent Flyers flying in Economy and Premium Economy class - 32kg per piece.
All customers flying in Business and First class - 32kg per piece.

How are Airport Excess Baggage and Heavy Charges of Qantas Airlines?
Excess baggage
Excess Baggage Charges will be applicable at the airport for any baggage exceeding your Checked Baggage Allowance. The Excess Baggage Charges listed below are for flights operated by Qantas with a "QF" flight number and vary depending on the destination. The carriage of baggage in excess of the Checked Baggage Allowance is depending to space being available.
Where Excess Baggage Charges are charged per piece rather than by weight, a Heavy Charge will be also applicable at the airport for any single piece of baggage exceeding the weight determined in your Checked Baggage Allowance. No single item of checked baggage may be over 32kg.
For travel within Australia: Australia Domestic (including QantasLink) +:
- AUD$40 for the first extra piece
- AUD$60 for the second and subsequent extra pieces
- AUD$30 Heavy Charge for each piece weighing over 23kg
For International Travel - other than The Americas:
International - between Australia and New Zealand, New Caledonia & Papua New Guinea: $20 for each excess kg (AUD).

What is QAN Airways Permanent Bag Tags – Q Bag Tags?
Checked baggage
The Q Bag Tag is a permanent electronic bag tag created to enable a faster and easier baggage check-in at domestic airports. There’s no longer a need to attach a temporary bag tag each time you fly on domestic flights - just drop your bags and travels.
What is more convenient , if you proceed to check-in online or with your mobile prior to you arrive at the airport, you'll be able to go directly to the Bag Drop.
Q Bag Tags can be bought from the Qantas Shop for AUD $29.95 or AUD $49.95 for two or from the Qantas Store for 6,500 Qantas Points or 10,000 Qantas points for two.
Qantas Club members will also find them for sale at the Sydney T3, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth Qantas Club service desks.
Important Information you need to remember:
1. You must declare any Dangerous Goods you are going to carry prior to you do check in.
2. If you lose your Q Bag Tag you will need to buy a replacement.
3. Q Bag Tags will not be replaced because of fair wear and tear.
4. Q Bag Tags which are faulty, lost or damaged by Qantas can be returned for replacement. What is general requirements Qantas baggage for Sporting Equipment?

Sporting equipment can be contained as part of your checked baggage allowance, depending on the sporting equipment requirements and codeshare exceptions. Each item checked in is one piece. Charges will be applicable for any baggage carried in addition to the checked baggage allowance.
You may buy an Additional Baggage Allowance in advance to save on airport excess baggage rates. The baggage carriage exceeding and above the free baggage allowance is subject to space being available.

To be accepted for carriage on Qantas operated services, bicycles must be carefully packed in a bike box. Bike boxes can be bought from most Australian Qantas Terminals. Customers can travel with their own bike box, however it must not exceed the dimensions and must be properly and securely packed.
Qantas bike pack dimensions are Length 140cm (55in), Width 30cm (12in), Height 80cm (32in).
Before bicycles can be accepted and they must be packed as follows:
- Tyres must be deflated
- Pedals must be removed
- Handle bars must be fixed parallel to the frame
- If the bicycles length exceeds 140cm (55in), the front wheel should be removed and fixed beside the rear wheel, inside the bike box
