Any checked baggage, including first two pieces (free allowance), will be considered as oversized/overweight if its total dimension and/or its maximum weight exceed the limit stipulated in free baggage allowance. Multiple times of Unit Rate may be charged to such baggage, apart from charges for excess piece of baggage, if any. In addition, Extra Charge will apply to Premium Economy Class check baggage weighing between 28~32kg, and Economy Class checked baggage weighing between 23~32kg.

- All Classes: Any piece of which the total dimensions are bigger than 158 cm (62 in) but not exceeding 203 cm (80 in). Additional charge/ piece: one time applicable Unit Rate
- Premium Economy/ Economy Class: Additional charge/ piece: one time applicable Unit Rate + one time extra charge in case of Excess Number + Overweight:

Any piece exceeding 2 checked baggage and weighing under 28 kg, and of which the total dimensions exceeds 158 cm but not exceeding 203 cm.

• Economy Class
Any piece exceeding 2 checked baggage and weighing under 23 kg, and of which the total dimensions exceeds 158 cm but not exceeding 203 cm.
Premium Economy/ Economy Class: Additional charge/ piece: twice applicable Unit Rate + one time extra charge in case of Excess Number+Overweight+ Oversized:

• Premium Economy Class
Any piece exceeding 2 checked baggage and weighing between 28 kg-32 kg, and of which the total dimensions exceeds 158 cm but not exceeding 203 cm.

• Economy Class
Any piece exceeding 2 checked baggage and weighing between 23 kg-32 kg, and of which the total dimensions exceeds 158 cm but not exceeding 203 cm.
- First/ Business Class: twice applicable Unit Rate in case of Excess Number + Oversized:

Any piece exceeding 2 checked baggages and of which the total dimensions exceeds 158 cm but not exceeding 203 cm.

Any baggage of which the total dimensions is over 80 inches (203cm) and/or the weight of which is more than 32 kg (70 lb.) shall not be carried as accompanied baggage unless prior handling arrangements have been made with the airline(s). Any such baggage shall be excluded from the free baggage allowance and shall be weighed and charged at three times the applicable Unit Rates for the first 45 kg or fraction thereof; for each additional 10 kg or fraction thereof, one additional Unit Rate shall be charged.

Economy Class passenger bringing checked baggage (including first two pieces) will be charged with extra charge if the baggage weight 28~32 kg/each piece of Premium Economy Class or weight 23~32kg/each piece of Economy Class, aside from excess number/oversized baggage fees, if any. Charge for excess baggage in flights from Taiwan is 1,000TWD, flights from USA: 32 USD, flights from other countries: 32USD or equivalent local currency, flights from Canada: 32 CAD.

Weight system is applied in flights between Asia and Europe/Oceania, and inside Asia.
Assessment of Excess Baggage Charge in Weight System
Excess baggage in Weight System is calculated according to:
• Fare at the issue date of the excess baggage ticket.
• The direction of travel.
• The excess baggage charge rules of the first airline is the primary standard, from the point for which the checked baggage allowance is exceeded to the first point at which the baggage is collected (excluding any transfer point where a passenger must collect his/her baggage because of imposed regulations/requirements, e.g. for customs clearance, change of airport, etc.)

Flights from Asia to Europe, inside Asia, and between Asia and Oceania:
• Baggage in excess of the checked baggage allowance shall be charged per kg at the rate of 1.5% of the highest normal direct adult one way Economy Class fare
• To determine the excess baggage charge, the number of kilograms of excess baggage is multiplied by the applicable rate, fractions of less than one kilogram are charged for as the next higher full kilogram.

- Baggage charge for flights from Amsterdam/Rome to Southeast Asia: 30 EUR/ kg
- Baggage charge for flights from Amsterdam/Rome to Japan and Korea: 45 EUR/ kg
- Baggage charge for flights from Amsterdam/Rome to Sydney and Brisbane: 30 EUR/ kg
- Baggage charge for flights from Frankfurt to Southeast Asia: 40 EUR/ kg
- Baggage charge for flights from Frankfurt to Japan and Korea: 55 EUR/ kg
- Baggage charge for flights from Frankfurt to Auckland, Sydney and Brisbane: 55 EUR/ kg
- Baggage charge for flights from Frankfurt to China/ Hong Kong: 55 EUR/ kg
- Baggage charge for flights from Vienna to Asia and Oceania: 50 EUR/ kg
• Skis, Surfboards, Windsurfing boards, Golf equipment...etc and other bulky baggage will apply the same practice as stipulated above.
• Offline stations or reverse from Southeast Asia/Japan/Korea/ Australia to CI Europe gateways will remain current practice (1.5% of the highest normal direct adult one way Economy Class fare).

- In piece system:
• Golfing equipment includes one golf bag and one pair of golf shoes.
• If in excess of the normal free allowance, shall be charged 50% of the applicable charge.
• This special charge is restricted to one golf bag per passenger; for any golf bag in excess thereof, the normal charge shall apply

- In weight system:
• One golf set includes one golf bag containing maximum 14 golf clubs, 12 golf balls and one pair of golf shoes, with total weight of not more than 15 kg.
• The charge shall be equal to the applicable rate of 6 kg of excess baggage when the above articles are not included in the normal free allowance.
• When the above articles are included in the normal free allowance, any overweight resulting from such inclusion shall be assessed at the above special charge (6 kg) or the normal excess baggage charge, whichever is lower.
• For any weight of the golfing equipment in excess of 15 kg, the normal excess baggage charge shall apply.

- In piece system:
• Surfboard/windsurfing equipment shall not be carried in the checked baggage allowance.
• One board not over 109 inches (277cms) to be charged at 100% of one excess baggage charge, or
• One board exceeding 109 inches (277cms) to be charged at 150% of one excess baggage charge.
• Additional board(s) will be charged at the same rate as the 1st board.

- In weight system:
Except to/from/within South West Pacific, surfboard/windsurfing equipment may carry in the checked baggage allowance. If in excess of the normal free allowance, the charge shall be：
• One board not larger than 109 inches (277cms) to be charged at the applicable rate for 5 kilograms of excess baggage.
• One board exceeding 109 inches (277cms) to be charged at the applicable rate for 8 kilograms of excess baggage.
• This special charge is restricted to one board per passenger. Additional boards at the applicable excess baggage charge

Domestic dogs and cats considered as “PETS” may be accepted for carriage as checked baggage conditionally. Please contact CI for further information of conditions and restrictions. The pet(s) and the container shall not be included in the passenger‘s free baggage allowance, and the excess baggage charge shall be assessed as follows:
- In piece system: One applicable charging unit for each cage containing pet (s)
- In weight system: The applicable charge for the total weight of the pet(s) and the container.

• China Airlines accept a declaration of valuation of no higher than USD2,500.00 (or equivalent at the bankers buying rate (BBR) at the date of depature) per passenger. Passenger wishing to make declaration of valuation over such amount should be encouraged to seek private insurance.
• Excess valuation does not include items such as money, jewelry, precious metal, negotiable papers, securities, business documents, samples, paintings, antiques, artifacts, manuscripts, irreplaceable books or publications, etc., which in general terms are classified as "Valuables", when such valuables are included in checked baggage.
• Excess value declaration is limited to CI online checked baggage only. Value declaration for hand baggage shall not be accepted.
• Value declaration and the consequent responsibility do not apply to pooled baggage. Each passenger must declare the value and pay the applicable charges separately.
• When such a declaration is made, a charge of USD1.00 will be applied for each USD100.00 of valuation.

The charge of each seat occupied by such baggage shall be the fare, which would have been charged to a passenger occupying such seat(s) for the travel to be undertaken at the time of booking the additional seat(s). Passengers can purchase any applicable fare types, excluding inclusive tour, child or other rebated fares such as spouse, agent or ship’s crew fares. The passenger’s checked baggage allowance shall not be increased when using this facility.
