If you recognize your baggage damaged, you shouldcome to Lost and Found Center before leaving the airport or contact American Airlines within 24 hours for domestic flights and 7 days for international flights.

To reduce the risk of baggage damage, passengers should not:
- over pack
- check bags that will not close completely
- register laptops, briefcases, and totes as checked baggage
- travel with extremely old or worn luggage
- pack restricted items

American Airlines will try its best to find lost/missing items of passengers. In case, baggage is lost on the plane or at the gate, please complete the lost and found form. Then, you need to file a report, AA will send an email or text updates on the status of the item. Lost items are kept for 30 days. In case, baggage is lost in the airport, find the lost and found section on the airport’s website and contact the airport directly.

It is neccessary to inform missing/delayed baggage in person before leaving the airport. Passenger has to make this notification within 4 hours after flight arrival at the airport where the bag was checked. If passenger booked the American Airlines baggage delivery service provided via BAGS VIP Luggage Delivery before departing, the report must be made within 12 hours of the arrival of passenger’s flight.

Yes. Passenger can check the status of missing/delayed baggage on the official site of American Airlines by providing baggage file locator ID and last name found on passenger’s Property Irregularity Receipt.

If passenger reported his missing/delayed baggage in person at the airport, he can find the file locator on the Property Irregularity Receipt given by the representative of AA. The file locator is on the top right of the Property Irregularity Receipt.

Passengers cannot check the status of delayed baggage online without a file locator. The official site of AA requires to provide a file locator to view delayed baggage status. Call Baggage Customer Service Desk (24 hours) at 1-800-535-5225 for an update and baggage file locator.

Yes. Depending on the animals’ breed, size and requirements, American Airlines will transport pets as hand baggage, checked baggage or as cargo. With the exception of a few breed restrictions, passengers can only travel with cats and dogs.

Yes. Passengers can travel with pest on the following routes:
- Within 48 contiguous (adjoining) United States
- Alaska
- Puerto Rico
- St. Thomas
- St. Croix
- To/from the US and Canada
- Mexico
- The Caribbean
- Central America
- South America

Passengers cannot travel with a pet on flights longer than 12 hours, or flights from/to:
- Hawaii
- Argentina
- Bolivia
- Brazil
- Chile
- Paraquay
- Uruquay
- Venezuela
- Transatlantic
- Transpacific

Yes. In flights from/to Transatlantic, transpacific, and South America (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, or Venezuela): passengers cannot travel with pets as hand baggage. The pets can be transported as checked baggage. In flights to EU, passenger has to meet the entry requirment, and pets must have a tattoo or implanted microchip that matches the identification number on their vaccination card.

In flights to Hawaii, pets must be transported as checked baggage if passengers connect via Honolulu and follow Hawaii’s quarantine rules. Passengers cannot bring pets to Hawaii on direct flights to Maui, the Big Island or Kauai, and if pet is pregnant and past 45 days gestation.

Pets can be transported as checked baggage from Japan to Los Angeles, while AA does not accept to transport pets to Japan as checked baggage.

In flights to Trinidad and Tobago (POS), passenger traveling with pet cannot arrive on a flight before 8am or after 4pm.

In flights of AA, passengers can travel with pets if these pets are kept in kennels as hand baggage. However, passengers have to pay fee for the baggage. Pet is at least 8 weeks old. Pet in kennel must be put under the front seat. Each flight of AA, 07 kennels are accepted, not including service animal; and each flight of American Eagle, 05 kennels are allowed (with a maximum of 01 in first class).
