The national air carrier of Vietnam aviation has officially opened its first flight operation at the new terminal. The first Vietnam Airlines flight carried sign of VN661 departing at 10:45 from Hanoi to Singapore. At the closing time, there were 167 passengers on the flight. In the new T2 Terminal, Vietnam Airlines will deploy a total of 48 check-in counters in the two fixed areas (G-H) and can extend 12 counters at E-F areas when necessary, improving some counters to double supply capacity of the current terminal T1. T2 Terminal in Noi Bai Airport has a capacity of 10-15 million passengers per year. The project of this terminal consists of 4 floors with a surface area of 140,000 square meters. It is designed in the form of wing model with the idea in the harmony with the nature, taking advantage of natural light and saving energy.
At the check in counters of Vietnam Airlines at Noi Bai International Airport, staff of the airline was assigned to guide first passengers to travel Vietnam Airlines flight to Singapore. Mr. Duong Tri Thanh - Vice General Director of Vietnam Airlines said, Vietnam Airlines will conduct surveys T2 Terminal, research and install information technology system to meet the exploitation of modern aircrafts such as A350 and B787. According to Mr. Thanh, Vietnam Airlines will upgrade comprehensively the quality of service from reception, flight procedures, lounge area to the aircraft to serve passengers at the new terminal best with the quality of service standards of SkyTeam. "That the new Noi Bai T2 Terminal was put into operation is a significant meaning to Vietnam Airlines, especially when the airline is attempting to implement programs on building quality of products and services in 4 star international standards by 2015", Mr Thanh said.
The area serving to-and-from flights of Vietnam Airlines is designed with uniform, modern equipment and systems and prominent signs. Check-in counters of Vietnam Airlines are arranged at the same area with ticket area to facilitate passengers. Baggage area of on arrival flights and lost luggage newsstand are reasonably laid out on the first floor. In addition, a luxury Business Class waiting room of 750m2 widely designed with bold ethnic identity, Skyteam-standard service will serve regular customers and the airline's business class on the 4th floor with 270 seats. For Vietnam international flights at the new terminal, the opening time at counters is three hours before departure time and close 50 minutes before departure time.
According to the plan, in the period from 26-30 of December, 2014, Vietnam Airlines will shift international flights from Hanoi to Singapore, Kaohsiung, Taipei (Taiwan) and Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) to the new terminal T2. The T2 Terminal has 17 boarding gates numbered from 20-36, and 29 aircraft parking, 22 modern underground fueling booths put into operation for the first time at airports in Vietnam. Under the plan, on the next day, other airlines will also shift international flights to and from Noi Bai International Airport to exploit at the new terminal T2. The conversion will be completed on December 30, 2014. From 4:00 (Hanoi time) on December 31, 2014, all international flights to and from Noi Bai International Airport will be officially exploited at the new terminal T2.
