The criteria to select 50 most innovative buildings in the world are not only depending on its height but also other qualities. To be included, these buildings had to challenge the "traditional typology of tall buildings in some way, through innovation in form, design, façade, environmental approach, technologies." Basing on these criteria, the impressive architectural work Bitexco Financial Tower are named in the list along with other famous buildings in the world such as Burj Khalifa (Dubai), Taipei 101 (Taiwan), Marina Bay Sands Integrated Resort (Singapore), 1 Bligh Street (Australia), Torre Costanera (Chile), and so on.
Bitexco Financial Tower is one of Vietnam skyscrapers built in the center of District 1, Ho Chi Minh City. The Tower was constructed on an area of 6,100 square meters. The total investment of the building was about 400 million dollars. Bitexco Financial Tower was invested by a big investment group - Bixteco Group, which is an investor of other projects such as Bixteco Office Building, The Manor Hanoi, The Manor Ho Chi Minh City, and The Garden. Bitexco Financial Tower was finished the construction and put in to operation on October 31st, 2010. At that time, the Tower was considered as the highest skyscraper in Vietnam. Right from the design stage, the investors of Bitexco drew up an idea of constructing a symbolic building for Vietnam. With the design concept inspired from lotus buds - a Vietnam traditional image, Bitexco Financial Tower is a symbol for the dynamic and modern in an era of integration. At the time of inauguration (2010), Bitexco was the 110th highest building in the world with the height of 262 meters.
According to Carlos Zapata, American architect of Bitexco, Bixteco Tower was designed not to compete the height with other buildings. "The height does not make sense because any certain height can be easily surpassed", Mr. Carlos Zapata said. The American architect desired to build a landmark which can reflect Vietnam traditional culture. As a result, he took an idea of a lotus bud - a Vietnam symbol of purity and optimism to express a future objective of the tower. Lotus bus was selected because its slim and elegant shape, which can convey a massage of "high rise". Lotus bus also has a metaphor meaning of "the blooming of Vietnamese culture". The architecture of the Tower was elegantly designed to express Vietnamese culture. Especially, Bitexco Financial Tower is the first building having helipad in Vietnam. At the height of 191 meters, the helipad has the total length of 40 meters. With the special architecture, Bitexco Financial Tower was voted in top 25 iconic building in the world (CNN - 2013) and 20 the world's iconic building (CNNGo - 2011). It also received an award of the building having the most prominent structure (NCSEA - 2011). And most recently, it ranked the 32th position in top 50 most innovative buildings.
