Enhance research on marine cultural heritages in Vietnam

Vietnam has been well-known for a long and beautiful coastline. It means that the values of marine cultural heritages in Vietnam are significant and need reserving. At present, Vietnam is in cooperation with South Korea to enhance the preservation.

To strengthen the preservation of marine cultural heritage in Vietnam, under the agreement between Ministry of Vietnam tourism, Sports and Culture and South Korea, at Vietnam National Museum of History, the signing ceremony of Minutes of "Collaborative research on Marine Cultural Heritage between Vietnam National Museum of History and Institute for Korean Marine Cultural Heritage", in term of 2015 - 2020. Participants in the signing ceremony are Mr. Nguyen Trung Khanh - Head of Vietnam foreign relations Department under Ministry of Tourism, Sports and Culture, Mr. Nguyen Huu Toan - Deputy Head of Cultural Heritage Department (under Ministry of Tourism, Sports and Culture). In addition, there was the participation of Dr. Nguyen Van Cuong - Director as well as Head of content and displaying form board, Dr. Vu Manh Ha - Vice Director as well as Deputy Head of content and displaying form board, and Dr. Nguyen Van Doan - Deputy Director of Vietnam National Museum of History. In Korean side, there are participations of Mr. So Jae Goo - Director of Korean Marin Cultural Heritage Institute, Mr. Kwa Yu Seok and Mr. Hong Sun Jae - senior analysts at National Institute of Korean Marine Cultural Heritage.

 

Representatives of Vietnam - Korea marine cultural heritage cooperation

 

The program was also attended by the managers representing for professional divisions of Vietnam National Museum of History and officers from the Department of Cultural Heritage. This is the cooperation period between Vietnam National Museum of History and Korean National Marine Cultural Heritage Institute. Previously, the two sides had exchanged and worked through cooperative programs on Vietnam marine cultural heritages research in 5 years (from 2009 to 2014). Speaking at the ceremony, Director of Vietnam National Museum of History - Dr. Nguyen Van Cuong stressed that during the period from 2009 to 2014, the cooperation between Vietnam National Museum of History and Korean National Marine Cultural Heritage Institute showed effectiveness. One of these achievement is the coordination in publishing the book “Thuyền truyền thống Việt Nam" (Vietnam traditional boat").

In addition, Dr. Nguyen Van Cuong highly appreciated the Vietnam - Korea cooperation between two sides, especially in research methods as well as reservation solutions, and promotion of marine cultural values. The representative of Korea, Mr. So Jae Goo - Director of Korean National Marine Cultural Institute hoped based on the achievements of previous period, in the time coming. Two sides will publish more books about marine culture translated in both languages of Vietnam and Korea. He also wishes to cooperate with Vietnam National Museum of History longer in many fields. During the time of exchanging and working, two sides agreed the contents of cooperation in the time coming as follows. Two parties will exchange and cooperate in the fields of archaeological excavations on maritime cultural heritage. Maintenance, repair and reconstruction of marine cultural heritage will be conducted. Research on marine trade history between the two countries in particular and in the region in general, cooperation and exchange on exhibitions and publications, exchange and training professions, and exchange information and data will be implemented.

 

Seminar on marine cultural value preservation

 

In terms of publications on research results: publication of research results will be implemented to cooperate through exchange clear statements about research findings as the result of the cooperation within the framework of the Memorandum. Pursuant to the MOU between the Vietnam National Museum of History and Korean National Marine Research Institute of Cultural Heritage, the two sides will implement the project from March 31, 2015 to March 31, 2020. Thereby, it expands and strengthens the cooperation in order to achieve good results for the conservation and promotion of marine cultural heritage, working towards the common goals in the conservation of cultural heritages in Vietnam and in Korea.
