Thanh Phu high-tech agricultural zone consists of sub-areas for production, information exhibition, services and commerce. Its main functions are multiplication of original rice (160 tones per year) and multiplication of fisheries (2.3 billion pieces per year) through the application of electroporation, seed cleaning machines, and quiet dryers. Besides the agricultural zone also organizes exhibitions of agricultural achievements, displays samples and designs tours for travelling.
According to the Department of Planning and Investment of Can Tho City, domestic investors will be partly supported in the interest rate of loan of credit institutions and in expense when participating in promotion activities which have been approved annually. As for foreign investors, they will be exempt from corporation income tax within 2 years since the business is profitable and be given the discount of 50% corporation income tax in the next 3 years. By the time the tax is levied, the tax rate is calculated on 20% of the profit. Foreign investors have the right to use the use rights of land and assets attached to the land as mortgage in Vietnamese credit institutions, branches of foreign banks operating in Vietnam and joint venture banks between Vietnam and other countries. It is favorable condition for investors to decide to implement investment in Can Tho.
According to Mr. Pham Van Huynh, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Can Tho City, the aim of constructing aforementioned high-tech agricultural zone is to apply high technology in multiplication and manufacture of original rice seed and other high quality and popular rice seeds in order to provide for mass production, domestic consumption and export purpose. Simultaneously, Thanh Phu high-tech agricultural zone also produces and provides freshwater fisheries such as catfish, indigenous black fish, and prawn which meet the requirement of safety for not only people in Mekong Delta but also consumers throughout the country. With incentives of Vietnamese government for agricultural development, products of the agricultural zone are expected to export to world’s largest markets like the U.S and EU.
Along with the construction of the agricultural zone, a nearby ecotourism zone will be built in an area of 6000 hectares. It will apply high-tech to rice cultivation system to increase output and improve the quality of products. The agricultural zone once completed will be opened for tourists to visit and study as a tourist attraction in Can Tho.
