A few days ago, at the headquarter of Central Party, Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong General Secretary had a meeting with Mr. Ban Ki-moon - UN General Secretary who is having an official working visit in Vietnam. UN General Secretary Ban Ki-moon was so excited to visit Vietnam on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of Vietnam Southern Liberation and Vietnam Reunification. He expressed the admiration for the achievements of social and economic development of Vietnam in recent years, especially in the field of poverty reduction, social security, disease prevention, disaster mitigation, coping and adapting to climate change. Mr. Ban Ki-moon highly appreciated the role and the position of Vietnam's contribution to the peacekeeping, sustainability and development in the region and in the world. He applauded the efforts and positive participation of Vietnam in UN activities, especially effectively conducting the Initiative of One United Nation, contributing to UN Security Council term 2008-2009, and being an active member of Human Rights Council Term 2014 - 2016. In addition, in recent years, Vietnam assigned many representatives to participate in UN's peace protection. Mr. Ban Ki-moon also affirmed the commitment of UN and organization member system to keep cooperating and supporting Vietnam in socio-economic development, implementing successfully the Millennium Development Goals and Sustainable Development Goals after 2015.
Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong welcomed UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, and congratulated him on the occasion of 70th year anniversary of the foundation of United Nations. General Secretary highly appreciated the efforts of the entire United Nations system and Mr. Ban Ki-moon on the basis of UN peacekeeping missions, development and human rights guarantee. He recognized the initiatives and activities of the UN in resolving regional conflicts, reforming peacekeeping operations, promoting disarmament, simultaneously mobilizing joint efforts of the international community in addressing urgent global issues.
The General Secretary expressed his thanks to the cooperation and support of the United Nations for Vietnam in overcoming the consequences of war and reconstruction, helping Vietnam in finance, experts, and technical support to poverty reduction, and economic and social development. Besides, the General Secretary said that the visit of the UN General Secretary played an important role in further promoting the good cooperation between Vietnam and United Nations. He also affirmed that Vietnam as an active member having the responsibility of the international community will continue to participate and contribute more to the work of the United Nations for peace, security and development in the region and in the world.
Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong General Secretary and Mr. Ban Ki-moon UN's General Secretary had exchanged about opinions on regional and international common issues. The UN's General Secretary respectfully invited Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong to visit UN's Headquarter in the time coming. Nguyen Phu Trong General Secretary thanked and received the invitation. National Assembly Chairman affirmed that in the spirit of human rights, democratic rights, freedom of countries in the world. Vietnam is always positively join in UN's organizations and International Parliament Union. And, the success of the 132th Great Council of International Parliament Union with Hanoi Declaration is a specific evidence. Applauding the speech of Mr. Ban Ki-moon, Mr. Nguyen Sinh Hung - National Assembly Chairman said that this was an important historical event in the relation between Vietnam National Assembly and United Nations.
