To strengthen agricultural cooperation between Vietnam and Japan, on March 11 afternoon, in Hanoi, Deputy Minister of Vietnam Agriculture and Rural Development - Mr. Le Quoc Doanh had a talk with Governor of Wakayama Prefecture (Japan) for "agricultural development and fisheries cooperation". At the talk, two sides exchanged views on cooperations in the field of agriculture and fishery over the time. The Deputy Minister quickly informed about potential strength of Vietnam agricultural development as well as the difficulties that the agriculture is facing in the process of restructuring agricultural sector to gradually increase in value and competitiveness of agricultural products in Vietnam on domestic and international market.
He also appreciated the help of Japan in the field of agriculture through projects supported ODA for Vietnam. To develop sustainable Vietnam agriculture in the context of international economic integration, Vietnam hopes to continue promoting comprehensive cooperation with Japan in general and Wakayama Prefecture in particular towards the common goal of creating many agricultural products, safe seafood production process with high productivity and efficiency. The cooperation is also believed to help Vietnam economy develop its strength in terms of agriculture and fisheries.
The Deputy Minister said, "We hope to enhance cooperation between Wakayama of Japan and Vietnam in terms of technology transfer in production, processing, and delivery in the fields that are interested by both sides, especially in the development of human resources for agriculture and trade promotion in agricultural products. Vietnam also hopes and encourages Japanese enterprises to invest directly in Vietnam in the fields of breeding, cultivation and processing of agricultural, forestry and fisheries, post-harvest technology and high-tech agriculture. We hope Japan continue send high-qualified experts to assist Vietnam coastal localities to improve techniques of fishing and advanced preservation, and enhance the value of Vietnam fishery products".
Mr. Yoshinobu Nisaka Governor of Wakayama Prefecture (Japan) appreciated the potential of agricultural production in Vietnam and promised to continue to promote cooperation with Vietnam in the fields that the province has advantages such as: technology of fruit production and processing, techniques of catching tuna, and send experts to help Vietnam in the fields. To solve problems and constraints in agricultural growth, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and relevant ministries and localities are implementing "Scheme on restructuring agricultural sector towards improving high added value and sustainable development" which has been approved by Prime Minister in June 2013. Agricultural trade exchanges between Vietnam and Japan are increasingly strengthened. Japanese direct investments in Vietnam also tend to increase and stabilize, especially after the visit to Japan of President Truong Tan Sang. Currently, Vietnam and Japan are building "medium-term vision of agricultural cooperation". The draft is expected to be completed in this June as a basis for implementing key issues agreed by two sides.
