Specifically, 12 destinations include: Dong Van Plateau in Ha Giang, Ban Gioc Waterfall in Cao Bang, Mau Son Mountain in Lang Son, Ba Be Lake in Bac Kan, Tan Trao historical relic in Tuyen Quang, Nui Coc Lake in Thai Nguyen, Sapa in Lao Cai, Thac Ba Lake in Yen Bai, Hung Kings’ Temple in Phu Tho, Dien Bien Phu – Ba Khoang in Dien Bien, Moc Chau in Son La, Hoa Binh Lake in Hoa Binh, and other 4 national tourism destinations including Lao Cai City, Lang Son City, Pac Po in Cao Bang, and Mai Chau in Hoa Binh. These destinations will be focused to develop infrastructures, preserve landscape and upgrade services to become the key points in Northwest tourism.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Deputy Prime Minister of Vietnamese government has visited and worked with leaders of agencies and chairmen of People’s Committee of provinces in the Northwest on tourism development recently. He has requested further study and research on policies to attract social resources and investment in tourism. Phuc has emphasized that infrastructure improvement are to be concentrated, especially transportation, hotels, and other tourism and technical infrastructures necessary for travel. Provinces are required to attract investors to community tourism, particularly in remote areas where ethnic minorities live.
Northwest has great potential for tourism development thanks to 30 ethnic groups inhabiting here, spectacular natural landscapes, and a diverse culture. In recent years, Northwest becomes one of the attractive destinations in Vietnam and tourism has become an important economic sector that contributes to eliminate and reduce poverty for ethnic groups in the Northwest. The strong growth of tourism is expected to provide local people with better living conditions and create more jobs for the unemployment.
To achieve the aim of growth, provinces in the Northwest, specifically 12 aforementioned zones need to boost promotion, promulgate images of Northwest Vietnam tourism, diversify tourist products, create a connection between tourism forms such as cultural tourism, spiritual tourism, history-oriented tourism and trips of go shopping at border gates. In addition, human resource is also to be trained through preferential policies for travel companies. The development of human resource has the same meaning with job creation and poverty alleviation for local people.
Deputy Prime Minister assigned the Northwest Steering Committee along with the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to annually hold events, conferences on Northwest tourism development to attract investment of both domestic and international investors, simultaneously, celebrate festivals to promote a friendly and charming image of the Northwest to tourists around the world.
