Attending the opening ceremony were Mr. Hoang Tuan Anh, the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism; the Minister of Tourism in countries of Mekong Delta (Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand); Mr. Le Hoang Quan, the Chairman of People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City; Mayors of cities of Phnom Penh, Vientiane, Yangon, Bangkok; Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan, the General Director of Department of Tourism; representatives of functional agencies in General Department of Tourism; representatives of provinces across Vietnam; and representatives of several tourism companies and presses worldwide.
Addressing at the opening ceremony, Mr. Hoang Tuan Anh emphasized that ITE – HCMC will be expanded in scale, continuously improve its quality, become an important large-scale tourism event not only in Vietnam but also in the region, simultaneously play the role of a base for 5 countries in Mekong Delta to promote cooperation in term of tourism development in each country in particular and in the region in general.
The opening ceremony themed “Colorful Mekong Night” took place with a large number of attractive art performances that showcased the cultural characteristics and mutual assistance among 5 nations of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam. It is considered as a beautiful symbol of international solidarity.
Also during the opening night, the Organizing Committee rewarded the 6th Mekong Tourism Alliance Award (MTAA) in order to honor most excellent businesses in tourism industry of 5 countries. The award consisted of 6 categories: Airline of the Year, Outbound Tour Operator of the Year, Inbound Tour Company of the Year, 5-star hotel of the Year, Resort of the Year and Ecotourism Destination of the Year. This award is presented every five years.
The International Travel Expo Ho Chi Minh City 2014 will take place until the end of September 13th 2014 with plenty of special activities for buyers, sellers, international presses, and tourists. Also in the framework of ITE HCMC 2014, there are seminars taking place daily such as the seminar dedicated to international journals, travel website and press agencies around the world, the seminar dedicated to tourists, and so on. At those seminars, experts in tourism industry will have a official meeting to discuss about current tourism trends and exchange experiences in enhancing the quality of services for further progress in the future. ITE HCMC 2014 is a great opportunity to promote images of tourism of 5 countries in general and of Vietnam tourism in particular; simultaneously exploiting potential, strength of typical tourism products of each country; creating favorable conditions for domestic travel companies, especially small and medium enterprises in Vietnam to expand business cooperation with ones of key international markets.
