On the same day, Mr. Quan also announced the decision to rename Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism into Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sport. Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism was established following the separation of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism into Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports. The inception of the department came from actual demands when Ho Chi Minh City was recognized as a leading region of the country in terms of tourism. The city accounted for 50 - 55% international tourists visiting Vietnam. Besides, tourism activities of Ho Chi Minh City accounted for 47% the total revenue of the country and contributed to 11% GDP of the city. The scale of tourism development in HCM City nowadays has been significantly growing in comparison to 2006. Transaction name of the department is Ho Chi Minh Department of Tourism.
According to the establishment decision, Ms. Van Thi Bach Tuyet was appointed as Director of the department; Mr. La Quoc Trung and Mr. Pham Huy Binh are Deputy Directors. With regard to Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports, Mr. Phan Nguyen Nhu Khue was appointed as Director. Meanwhile, there are 6 Deputy Directors including Mr. Le Ton Thanh, Mr. Tran Tuan Anh, Mr. Mai Ba Hung, Mr. Nguyen Van Minh, Mr. Vo Trong Hung, and Mr. Nguyen Hung.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Le Hoang Quan emphasized that Ho Chi Minh City is the first locality in Vietnam separating Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism into two distinct departments. Ho Chi Minh City is a leading cultural and tourism center in the country, therefore, the establishment of Tourism Department is an inevitable need to meet the increasing demands and the continuous growing of tourism sectors in the city. Mr. Quan also expressed his desire that Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports will sooner stabilize the organizational structure, develop plans, and closely cooperate to promote the images and the culture of the country to international friends.
Also at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ministry, Mr. Ho Anh Tuan stated that Department Of Tourism Of Ho Chi Minh City is the first department specializing in management of tourism in Ho Chi Minh City and in Vietnam. Hence, the operational efficiency of the department is not only at multinational level but also has effects to other regions. Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism believed that tourism sector in the city will contribute to the development of the country in general and the city in particular.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong, Vice-Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committe said that Ho Chi Minh City is a leading center in terms of economy, culture, and science of the country. Therefore, cultural, tourism and sport activities have positive developments. Tourism is one of 9 service sectors needed to promote in order to contibute to the economic restructuring of the city.
