Mother Goddess Worshiping Festival 2014 in Hanoi

Mother Goddess Worshiping Festival 2014 will be organized from October 15th to November 17th at the county level and from November 28th to 30th at the municipal level at Cultural Friendship Palace in Hanoi.

Mother Goddess Worshiping Festival 2014 will be hosted by Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism. This is a great opportunity for followers and religious groups who are engaging in the religious tradition of Mother Goddess worship in Hanoi city and other provinces to meet and exchange experiences. The Festival aims to enhance the spiritual life and honor Vietnamese worshipping belief, contribute to preserve and develop good values of Mother Goddess worship in Vietnam. This is also one of meaningful and practical activities to campaign the recognition of UNESCO for Vietnam Goddess worshiping as the world's intangible cultural heritage.

Participants in the Festival can be religious groups at shrines, temples, and adoration clubs in Hanoi. The content of repertoires participating in the Festival is to praise gods and heroes who had the great contribution in the founding, protection and development of the country. Each group has the maximum time of 60 minutes to perform. According to the organizing committee, until now, there are 250 individuals and groups registered for this event. Mr. Nguyen Khac Loi, Deputy Manager of Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, this year festival is on a voluntary basis with the larger numbers of participants in comparison to the previous year.

 

Prepare for a worship performacne

 

Mother Goddess Worship Festival 2014 will be organized in 2 periods. The first period is at the county level taking place from October 15 to November 11. The festival will widely organized in many locations of the city including  Den Lu Temple, Hoang Mai (from October 15th - 19th), Luu Phai Temple, Ngu Hiep, Thanh Tri (from October 25th - 28th), Quan Tam Phu Temple, Son Tay (from October 8th - November 11th), and Den Rung Temple, Ngoc Thuy, Long Bien (from November 15th - 17th). In each location, there are 20 - 25 groups performing. The best repertoires will be selected to participate in the municipal level. The second period of the Festival will be held in two days November 28th and 29th in Cultural Friendship Palace, 91 Tran Hung Dao Street, Hanoi.

 

Len dong or going into trance

 

In the framework of the festival, a conference with a theme "The reality of Mother Goddess Worship in Hanoi" will be organized in November 30th to connect cultural studies, religious belief's researchers, followers and groups engaging in Mother Goddess worship in the baseline study and proposed solutions for managing this belief. Simultaneously, the Festival also aims to build the appropriate awareness of Mother Goddess Worshiping.
