Con Dao Island is located in the Asian monsoon climate and influenced by ocean climate. By dint of this, Con Dao weather is relatively cool and pleasant all year round; it is also influenced by weather in Southeast Vietnam. In a year, there are two monsoon movements: south-west monsoon from May to September, and north-east monsoon from October to April. Con Dao climate distinguishes two season: rainy season and dry season. The rainy season runs from May to November with the highest rainfall in August and September. During this season, it is quite humid; the average rainfall is 2.200mm per year. Meanwhile, in dry season running from December to April, it is cool with the annual average temperature of 27°C. During a year, February is the coolest month with the average temperature of about 22°C, while May is the hottest month with temperature up to 34°C. Con Dao Island is also located in the intersection of the warm currents from the south and cold currents from the north. Temperature of seawater is from 25.7°C to 29.2°C.
Weather in Con Dao from December to April is characterized by temperature fluctuating around 26°C, and less rainy. December marks the end of rainy season in Con Dao Island, with average temperature at 26°C, and humidity of 80%. Con Dao weather is stable with seven hours of sunshine. In January, the average temperature is 25°C. Even though, sunshine hours in this month are about 6 hours per day, the humidity is high. Rains sometimes occur and the temperature is no less than 22°C at night. With average temperature fluctuating from 25°C to 27°C, February witnesses the same type of weather in January. At night, the temperature remains stable, despite very hight humidity of 80%. In March, the average daily temperature rises gradually to 27°C. The average temperature of Con Dao Island weather in April is 29˚C, the highest temperature is 32˚C, while the lowest one is 25˚C. Humidity remains high in this month with a bit of rains.
Rainy season in Con Dao starts from May to November. In May, weather in Con Dao Island starts to change. The temperature is higher with an average level of 29˚C and a humidity level of 85%. The average temperature of seawater is 30˚ along with more rains. In June, the average temperature is 27˚C, humidity level at about 80%. There are about 14 rainy days in June with rainfall level of 190mm. In July, the average temperature in Con Dao is 28˚C. It is more windy and rainy in this month. The average temperature in August is about 28˚C, while the humidity is high (85%). Rains and strong wind occur more often during this month. There are 20 rainy days in this month. In September, there are more heavy rains with strong winds and high humidity (85%). That two major ocean currents meet and collide in September triggers massive rainfall spanning up to 21 days. In October, the average temperature is 27˚C, with a maximum daytime temperature of 29˚C and a minimum of 24˚C. Humidity level is high at 85 per cent with a lot of rainfall. In October, there are 20 rainy days in a month, and only five sunshine hours per day. In November, the average temperature is 27°C and the sea water temperature is around 25°C. The climate in Con Dao Island is starting to calm down a bit in this month. The rainfall is not as much as previous months with 15 days of rainfall.
Con Dao is an ideal destination in Vietnam for swimming and exploring. If you are adore diving and exploring the ocean, the period from March to October is the best time to visit Con Dao Island. The temperature ranges from 20-30 °C. March is an ideal month to visit Con Dao as there is no rain, warm at night and suitble sea water temperature for diving, snorkelling, and surfing. In April, the sea is calm with temperature of seawater at 28˚C - perfect for a boat trip to surrounding islands, and various water sports. In May, the sea is starting to get rougher, thus, it is a perfect time to enjoy surfing in Con Dao. June’s weather is starting to become a bit more unsettled, although the average temperatures remain ideal for outdoor pursuits, including surfing, kite-surfing and diving, along with exploring surrounding islands such as Dam Trau and Bai Dat Doc. In July, hiking and trekking are more preferred by tourists when visiting Con Dao Island. Coming to Con Dao Island in August September and October, you will have a chance to join interesting and colorful festivals such as Mid-Autumn Festival, celebration of Vietnamese Independence Day, and other traditional festivals in this island.
